Yellow Leather HELP!......PC's--->MH/T5

Hey everyone,

I bought this yellow leather about a month ago, the LFS guy told me he would be fine under my 130 PC's. Well he never looked as good or as open as he did at the store, and is starting to turn brown!! or molting!?! or something, i dont know!?!

After doing some reading i found out that these guys need a good amount of light, luckly i have been planning to upgrade my light to the Aquamedic Ocean 250 MH/ 2x24 T5. the good news is it arrived today, and i set it up, its 13.5 inches of the surface right now, for light acclimation reasons. My leather looks much better now, but what is this brown stuff on the left side of him? what should i do? should i cut it off?

you can take an old tooth brush and gently scrub away the brown...Very gently....Do this while in the aquarium.....You must get the brown off...It will suspend its energy trying to heal that part instead of growing......Yellows can go down hill faster than any other yellow/..Place it in very high current

imo the brown stuff is rot/bacteria/fungus.

i agree with bitis's suggestions except for the very high flow/current. some current will help now but i don't believe it should be constant or very energetic flow. intermittent and moderate level (2"~4"/sec.) is better. you're basically flushing it clean every so often plus the respiratory and feeding issues flow brings.

you can brush it clean or siphon it clean. often though, you'll have to apply some rubbing action to remove/loosen up the brownish material. more often when it's a thinner layer than thicker actually.

Thanks for the advice guys, i got the brown stuff off. He wasnt to happy for about an hour and a half after though. But he opened back up. I'll keep you updated.

Also what do you guys feed your leathers? i feed all my corals, a mixture of small plankton, some Phytoplankton, a little Cyclop-Eeze Freeze-Dried, along with a few drops of selcon. is that mixture ok for my yellow?
