Yellow longnose butterflyfish help

I already posted this in the marine fish section. I apologize as I now see that was the wrong section. That one can be closed/merged.

I've had a yellow longnose butterflyfish for 3 weeks now. He's currently in a 75 gallon quarantine tank with an Aquaclear 110 filter, a couple of airstones and a powerhead. When I first got him, he refused pellet food but ate mysis right up. I tried switching it up and feeding him Rods frozen 5 or 6 days ago, and he didn't touch it. Ever since then, he barely eats anything. He will swim up to every piece of food floating around, but will only eat maybe 1 or 2 of them. I've tried a few drops of garlic extreme in the mysis, tried selcon, and tried krill and bloodworms as well. He will barely eat anything. Today, I noticed it looks like his nose is cut. Any idea what this could be, or what to do at this point? The temperature is 80, ph is 8.2, salinity is 1.024, and there is no ammonia. Any help is appreciated.

1. How old is this aquarium?
A few weeks old. It is a quarantine tank that gets setup as needed. It was seeded with cycled media.

2. If less than six months old, what is ammonia level?
No ammonia

3. What is SG of this aquarium? How measured?
1.024 with refractometer.

4. When was the last fish added to this aquarium?
Yellow longnose butterflyfish

5. Was it quarantined? If so, how? And how long? Was it prophylactically treated? How?
Currently in quarantine for about three weeks. No treatments have been given.

6. If you are using a copper based medication, which one? How often do you measure level? When?
No copper.

7. If you are using hyposalinity, how did you calibrate your refractometer?
No hyposalinity.

8. Please describe in detail, the appearance of the fish? If there is one or more pimples, are they lumpy? What color?
It almost looks like the fish was cut and had an open wound on it's nose. It appears on both sides of it's nose in the same spot.

9. Please describe the behavior of the fish as best you can. Is it acting reclusive? Is it always up towards the top of the aquarium? Is it avoiding light? How active is the fish?
It is generally at the bottom of the aquarium. It hides occasionally. When I get close to look, he comes out and swims around.

10. Is the fish eating? What?
Was eating mysis, but hasn't eaten much in the past few days.

I would treat for infection with erythromycin, kanamycin, maybe nitrofuracin green powder and see if his appetite increases - maybe it hurts to eat with the sore. I have a decent background with butterflyfish and infection. I would continue to offer blackworms in addition to mysis etc, but only a few at a time in case he doesn't eat them. Also, I'd tape some paper to areas of the tank, including bottom so the fish has some refuge from his reflection.

Good advice. Black worms (live) are likely to entice. Be aware that they die quickly in salt water so you will need a turkey baster or equivalent for feeding.

Thanks for the advice. I am getting some live blackworms today and I'm really hoping he eats. I will also tape as much of the tank as I can to avoid the reflections. Unfortunately, I don't have any of those treatments on hand. I currently have Prazipro, Cupramine, ParaGuard, Maracyn 2, and Furan-2. Would any of these be effective? If not, any suggestions on what specifically to order would be appreciated...

Furan-2 is a good broad-spectrum antibiotic. It can be combined with kanamycin safely and effectively. Seachem makes a kanamycin product called Kanaplex which is widely available. I've not had good results with Maracyn 2 personally.

Thanks. I will try Kanaplex and see how it goes...

Unfortunately, he wasn't very interested in the live blackworms :(. I picked up a few medications. I picked up API General Cure (Metronidazole and Praziquantel), Seachem KanaPlex, and API Furan‑2 since these were the three I was recommended from all my posts. I've read that all three of these can be combined? Any advice on dosages/a treatment plan would be very appreciated...thanks!

Some people combine kanaplex + furan + metro at full strength for an antibacterial cocktail of sorts. I've never used it. I don't think metro and prazi are necessary here and metro is rather harsh.

Personally, I'd try the Furan 2 and combine with kanaplex after 3 days if there's no visible improvement or appetite. Kanaplex treats mostly gram negative infections and some gram positives, erythromycin is for gram positive and Furan 2, as mentioned is a broad spectrum.

Not all infections are alike, but I had a bff with a mouth sore that stopped eating and I tried kanaplex to no avail, ditched it after 4 days and used Bifuran+ and it worked. Fish began eating and all was well. My conclusion or guess basically was that since antibiotics are best administered through food and the fish wasn't eating perhaps the Bifuran+ absorbed through the flesh more effectively or the bacteria simply wasn't affected by kanaplex.

Keep trying a few worms here and there, it takes awhile. Also a small bit of fresh clam or scallop is hard to deny.
