Yellow stuff in protein skimmer

Hello I just added instant ocean (orange bag) to my 50 gallon tank I am just starting to cycle after a day the foam in the skimmer was yellow and yellow stuff all stuck to the skimmer I put the salt directly into the aquarium does anyone else have this problem or is it normal? Thanks

No need running a skimmer during the cycle. Also after the tank is established you'll want to mix your water and salt in a bucket and not in the tank...

Was there dust from sand? Skimmers pretty quickly pickup that.

You can run the skimmer if needed. Is the skimmer brand new? If so, it could be residue from the oils. It's recommend to run a new skimmer in some RO/DI and vinegar mixture to rid of those oils.

Was it Instant Ocean Reef crystals(orange not purple)? That has some extra stuff in it that may have been skimmed out. People often mention that it leaves a brown crust over time in the mixing container. I would not worry about it.
