yellow tang eating live shrimp?!

Ive been having a problem with my yellow tang. We got a cleaner shrimp and two peppermint shrimp yesterday, and as soon as the cleaner shrimp was put into the tank, my yellow tang started eating him alive... this morning I have yet to see the two peppermint shrimp and fear the worst....

My question is, is this normal? Should I give up trying to keep shrimp in my tank? We feed dry food daily, both vegetarian, algae, and meaty dry food.

Any help would be greatly appreciated at this point! Thanks a bunch!

A tang eating live shrimp? Hmm, there's a fist. I've never even heard of that before, and I've certainly never seen it. I've had shrimp in my tank since the very beginning and none of my tangs have even bothered with them.

Did he actually eat it? Or did he just Kill it?

While not common it is documented and I have experienced the same problem with a yellow tang.

Fish that are really not suitable for confined spaces lash out in many odd forms of behavior.
