Yellow tang has ich :(

My yellow tang has ich (white spots). Its been in my tank for 1 week. How hardy is a yellow tang? The fish refuses to eat green seaweed, he picks on the live rocks all day though.

Just wanted to hear some opinions if this is a hardy fish and can survive ich.

I have a cleaner shrimp, but I don't know if his cleaning the yellow tang though.

Any advice is appreciated. Thanks

tangs are pretty susceptible to ich due to thin slime coat. the cleaner shrimp will do nothing to help it. In the right conditions it can survive and build partial immunity, it depends on the tank. There is a sticky in the new to hobby forum that is pretty complete.

Reefer08, we have a Powder Brown tang that came down with Ich shortly after we brought him home and we found "Extreme Garlic" to be our silver bullet against it. I feed two cubes of frozen Mysis shrimp daily which are soaked in the garlic for 15 min or so before going into the tank.
