Yellow tang HELP!

Hello all.
Just yesterday i added a sm/med volitain lion and a med clarkii clown to an already existing 70 gallon with a med yellow tang that has been in there for 2 months. i added the lion first with no problems, then the clarkii went in shortly after. the tang did not act aggressive with the lion, but chased the clown around biting his fins, etc. the clarkii is in the sump for now (doing fine, i might add). i just wanted to know if you all have any suggestions on how i can successfully keep this trio. btw, the clown was added from a 40 gallon that ive had him in for almost a year, during that time he became the ruler of the tank and killed a few fish.

ahhhhh, the trials and tribulations of having a semi-aggressive reef tank!

thanks for all of your help...

Sarah

My sense is that the aggression was just some initial annoyance at a new fish being added to the tang's territory. It would likely have stopped fairly soon. Clowns are not much of an ongoing concern for a tang. I'd re-introduce the clown, and maybe do so at night when the lights are off. You can also try moving a few pieces of rock around to throw off the territory a bit, but either way, I don't think the aggression will be a problem.

ummm..what's your plan for expansion? a 70 Gal with a volitain lion and a yellow tang is not really sustainable, you will need to get a bigger tank.

I agree with moving some rock around like jerry said but, I would take the tang out for a week or so and than add him back. Maybe put the tang in your sump so he's still in the sysem but not in the display tank and the clown can settle in.
