Yellow Tang -- White Stripes?

Home from work today and when the actinics came on I noticed that my YT has 2 white stripes on its body ... identical marks, one on each side of its body.

Lights have been on for 15 mins and as time goes the stripes are turning more body color


Is this just a sign it was startled by the lights coming on?

Mine does the same thing - It is merely a stressor indicator. Now, if he still has the stripes after an hour or two, I'd start getting concerned that there is something really wrong.

Think of it like this - When someone turns the light on in your bedroom and you are still sleeping, you are typically disoriented. Same thing with the tang.

Thanks, thats what I had figured since after 25 mins they are completely gone

these are it's "night" colors. Most fish will have differnt coloring or markings when they sleep. What u saw is simply your tang slowly regaining it's normal colors as the lights are on. Completely normal
