Yellow Toadstool Not Yellow

I recently ordered and received a "bright yellow toadstool leather." It arrived looking a lavender color, and after a week in the tank is kind of pale fleshy pink. I called to ask if I had been given the wrong coral, but was told it is normal for it to take 3 weeks or more to turn yellow after shipping. Can anyone verify this? I feeling a little uneasy.

pink? I dont think it should be pink. If anything it might be brown. Let me know what you find out so I can help you on this. Pics?

You might call this light brown or flesh colored. I am going now to try to get a decent pic.

Here is the pic. The quality sucks, but at least you can see that it's NOT YELLOW.

If it is that color and it is a yellow leather then it will take a couple weeks to turn back to its original color. They can brown because of not enough light or to much light so place it accordingly. What type of lighting do you have?

I have power compacts, but it is positioned about half way up and center, with the brightest light available to the tank. I hope that is going to be sufficient. I asked about that when purchasing. So it is possible for it to take a while to turn to the bright yellow after shipping?

Lights are 30 inch 65 watt 10,000K power compact and 65 watt actininc.Interesting about alkalinity, will check that.

It is a 37T. I know the toadstool will get way to large for it, but I have a 180 in the works. It actually looked lighter today and opened up more. The 37T is my seahorse tank, but I have so wanted the bright yellow toadstool, I gave in to temptation and ordered it thinking to have the bigger tank up by the time it outgrows this one.

unless your lighting/photography/coloration is really off, that ain't a yellow sarco. when the coral's shrunk up or sickly there's significant changes possible in color though.

there's around 3~4 species (imo) that take the golden yellow that is most commonly attributed to sarcophyton elegans. there's a couple of sarcos that look yellowish or greenish but the bright lemon/golden yellow is pretty distinctive when the polyps expand.

that ain't one of 'em imho.

Tinyreef, I was very afraid of that. Especially since the other part of my order was a yellow spaghetti finger leather and I received instead a devil's hand.

yeah, i hate that. i recently ordered a bunch of sarco frags but got a mixture of lobo, sarco, and sinularia frags. very similar in look though (these specific specimens) but a couple were obviously not sarcos even in their "frag/young state". (unless they are s. digitatum, which i highly doubt)

the yellows though are usually not a sarco they (ols) screw up on though because of the obvious coloration differences. the worst i've seen "typical" yellow sarcos look was a brownish canary-yellow but it was because it was all ticked off and sick. eventually it took a decent golden coloration.

care for the brownish types are just usually lower light intensity versus the yellows (high intensity lighting). slightly higher flow seems to do them (browns) better than yellows ime. all that's very general info though. hth

Shawn your tank is glorious. I can only hope that someday mine could compare. I have had such good luck ordering online before, but boy they really messed me up this time. Makes you really skeptical of ordering after you get burned once. Very costly!!! I tried to get by there yesterday, someone was still there but it was after closing so I didn't stop. Will try to come by Tues. or Wed. of this week.

I would aim for dropping in Wed. that afternoon.

Our shipment should be in probably tues. ... and yes, I have got Kathy to stick some of those nice Yellow Fiji Leathers on order!

Bitis316, thanks for the offer to help find a real yellow toadstool. I think it is very cool that you propagated your own. I just now have mushrooms splitting for the first time and it has set me on fire. Thrilling. Looking forward to actually doing something besides observing. Shawnts works at a nearby LFS where I should probably have ordered from in the first place, just saw the awesome pic online and got carried away.
