Yet another Toadstool Question

I have tried to wait it out as every post I have read says it happens . . . but wanted to post a pic anyway.

This toadstool has been in my tank for almost two months and was fully extended within a few hours of placing it in the tank. And continued to open each and every day until a couple weeks ago.

Now the "spots" started to appear in the last day or so and am getting more concerned.

See pic. and thank you, Maria

Had you done anything in the tank around the time it started to close in on itself? clean your tank, stir up the substrate etc? from the spots, it almost looks like it might be getting ready to shed, but it's hard to tell. From what I have read, shedding can take a week or two to finish.

Did my normal weekly water change and all parameters stayed the same, I have triple checked them every day. Hoping it is shedding but some small extension duringing the day which is odd. Will try to have patience.

Well it has been almost 3 weeks now and my toadstool has been in this same position as this photo for the last two. Now it has developed a green "dot" in the middle. Hopefully you can see it in the photo. Some other green spots seem to be developing below that.

I increased the flow . . . added a MP10 so it should be happy. Not sure what the green is starting to indicate. It had been so happy I can't pinpoint what the issue may be, just doesn't seem to be shedding.

Thanks in advance, Maria

What light set up are you running and what are your parameters?

These corals like very bright light. They are not a low light coral.

They also tend to like a little dirty water. Nitrates in the 2-10 range work very well with them.

If he is not swaying in the current, you dont have enough on him either. Variable flow and at least every now and then, it should look like you are about to blow him over.

I can only assume your lights are not powerful enough or your water flow is not varied enough.

Parameters look good, PH may be slightly low at this testing, pic attached. 1.025 on Salinity. I have Fluval LED but just got the Current Marine Pro which I will put on by the end of the week. Added more flow as well with the addition of the MP10 with the pre-existing Hydor Koralia. What seems so strange is that he was fine for two months with the equipment that was there previously . . . . such a frustrating hobby at times, lol

I would say PH is significantly low..... I run upwards of 8.4, 8.5 @7. something, you are note doing a service to the tank.

What does your water mix up to at 78 degrees?

I retested this morning and PH looked more normal. Also tested with my electronic tester I use for my pool and it indicated 8.2

Salinity is a consistent 1.025, premixed to use at water changes with RODI. Auto top off is also using pure RODI. Have nver had any fluctuation in Salinity yet . . . keeping my fingers crossed.

IMO, it's getting ready to shed or it's not getting enough light. You might have to move it up to the upper two-thirds of your tank with moderate to high flow and see how it does.
