Has any one kept the swallow tail zebra angels from the red sea??? I am reading and most say keep alone and not in pairs....
Any help appreciate on this particular fish.

Not much input other than my LFS just got one in and I was mezmerized by it. Not the most colorful but a really cool shape and demeanor.

Like any of the Genicanthus sp. angelfish, they can be kept in pairs or harems - one male per tank. If possible, start with smaller females or females that have been housed with the male since collection. Sometimes people run into issues with females that have already begun their transformation into males - not much you can do to ensure tranquility at that point.

Genicanthus caudovittatus [sometimes called the Zebra or Zebra Lyretail Angelfish - totally different from the Swallow Tail Angel (which, frustratingly, can be either Genicanthus semifasciatus or Genicanthus melanospilos)] prefers deeper depths (100-170 feet being typical) and as such will not be particularly happy with the bright lighting of a typical reef aquarium. It also prefers cooler water - temperatures in the 70 to 75 degree range are ideal, though it seems to do just fine even at 78 or so. They are a relatively active fish and can reach ten inches in length. A tank of around 8' by 4' by 24" tall should be suitable for a group of 3-4 adults.

Aside from those requirements, it's not a difficult angel to keep. They seem to be quite hardy, so long as they've been properly collected. Your example being from the Red Sea, that's probably not an issue to worry about.
