Zen's 670 gallon room divider.

I am in the middle of remodeling my basement, and I decided to turn my fish room into a new 580 gallon reef tank.

My 225 is currently plumbed into my basement. Decided to go big and looked at placing a 8' long tank where my sump, protein skimmer, and three-part dosing currently occurs.

I almost ordered an 8' tank but after measuring the area again, I was 3" short of being able to put in an 8' tank. I would have to move a wall plus I want two external waveboxes on the right side, and that would extend the length another 5". So once the wall has to move, I thought why not go even bigger? My current sump sits in an area next to a bathroom, so I broke down the wall between the current "sump" room and bathroom, and the new 10' long tank will extend into the bathroom by a little less than three feet.

So I ordered an acrylic tank from ADHI here in Denver. The sides are 1.25" acrylic with external overflow and tunze waveboxes on the right end.

Will re-use a lot of the equipment on my current 225. Reeflo Orca 250, Four 400W Radiums in Lunenarc 3's driven by Galaxy Ballasts with supplemental ReefBrite LEDs for Actinic supplementation.

I should have taken some pictures of the "before" but here'e the progression.

Next installment. Finished drywall and texture in the basement, and I moved my sump to the bathroom so that I can tile the floor where the new tank will sit.

I will have to do a custom wood stand as I left a lot of the existing wall in place. There was plumbing in the wall that would have been a lot of trouble to move so I will just build a stand, attach it to the existing walls and use a piece of 3/4" plywood across the top.

Pictures:

Skimmer in bathroom. The sump is actually in the shower. Note wasteline from skimmer dumps straight into toilet

Next installment:

Overall tank dimensions are 120" x 36" x 36" or around 670 total gallons.

Pictures follow:

Next installment:

I picked up 600# of Marco Rock as well as 280# of Ocean Direct sand and 210# of Aragamax Select Sand.

I also received my full size Lumenarc 3's and 2 Tunze 6305's.

Pictures: (Note the Corona for size reference. Most pieces are at least basketball size, with the largest piece weighing over 80# and over 3' long.)

Here's some pictures of the tank at ADHI's shop. All that is left is to add the external overflow and the powder coated steel bracing.

This one has Mark Mann (tkeracer619) in it:

Tank was delivered today. I fully intended to take pictures of the move, but I was a bit stressed by the whole event and was supervising everything instead of documenting it.

Anyway, here are some tank pictures and the obligatory MerFamily Photos.

I mounted the four full size Luminarc 3's before the tank arrived. I just finished installing half my ReefBrite LED's before I took the photos.

very nice! does the steel bracing have cross members or does it just go around the top perimeter of the tank?

what kind of lights are you using?

Four 400 watt Metal Halides (Radium 20K) on Galaxy Ballasts with four 4' ReefBrite LED strips (Blue).

The metal halides aren't powered yet as I am currently using the 2 power circuits to run my existing 225. Once I can break that down I can power the halides.

Really cool project, I love that the tank is 1-1/2" thick it should be able to handle some great waves in there!! Can't wait to see how it looks when it all done. Nice job. :)

Here's a Video of a 4" wave I was able to tune in using the external waveboxes and my Apex Controller.
