Zeo ?

Maybe maybe not. If your tank has a higher nutrient level than the zeo tank your frag might lose some color. The goal behind zeo is to bring out a corals true color. So i guess it depends. Frags often do different things in different tanks. Whether zeo is involved or not.

But, would you say that the majority of non zeo reef tanks have higher nutrient levels than zeo tanks?
I have seen dialed in zeo tanks in person and there is no way I would be able to achieve the same colors.

Only way to know for sure is buy one or two and try it out. I buy groups of them, then resell or trade the ones that don't look great in the tank.

It sounds like you already know that you wont achive the same colors. Zeo tanks are not the only ones with amazing colors. Some of my friends can keep a certian colored better than me and they dont all use zeo.

If I buy a frag from someone that is using Zeo, won't the color of the coral change in my tank if I am not using Zeo?
probably

Okay, I was going to order some frags from an online vendor, but probably not now, knowing that the color will probably change in my tank.
side note:
do you think it is somewhat misleading for that vendor?

MISLEADING? no not at all. It's part of the game. If you don't have the proper setup and experience, you won't have the great colors.

I don't think it is safe to assume they will change colors in your tank. ZEO affects all corals differently. With some corals it can really help bring out better colors and other corals may not change as much. It also depends on the tank and owner where the coral is coming from.

I think I know the online vendor you are talking about. I've heard a lot of people comment that his coral colors are even better than almost all other ZEO users. I would expect them to not be as colorful in your tank. Most of his captive raised frags will still be colorful, just not as colorful as they may be in his tank. I have several of his frags and they all are nice and colorful in my tank.

I don't think it is misleading for a vendor to use ZEOvit. If they want to do everything they can to get the best colors out of their stock and, therefore, the best resale value then that is their right. As long as they are not photoshopping their corals to appear better than they look in person than anything is fair game.

Totally agree with Travis and others on all topics. My experience with Zeo frags is that the colors may be different in a non-Zeo tank, but that does not mean they brown out. It may mean the difference between blue, and neon blue coloration. If I am thinking of the same vendor, his frags are excellent and I would purchase from him again.

I don't think any vendor selling corals is trying to do anything more than KEEPING the fantastic colors they see when the coral comes in. I think the goal is to keep that color long enough to get it the heck out of the shop and make the money back on the investment. If keeping a low nutrient tank to do that is somewhat misleading I'd have no idea why.
