zoa feeding

when is the best time of day to feed zoas?

I just picked up some Zoas. Have no idea what kind they are. :worried:

It would be a good idea to have your zoas adapt to the system first and not to think about feeding them yet.
Making sure the system has good water quality and appropriate light for them is the best for now. Try to understand about that stuff...
But to answer your question:
Any time, if the polyps are open.
Grandis.

ok, seems like the polyps have taken well to my tank, all polyps were all open within a few hours after being aclimated and then moved into the tank. So far they have been looking well the past three days. They open when the lights come on, and seem to close up about 45min after my actinics turn off and the moon lights come on.

Dont worry about actually "feeding" the zoas just try to maintain a consistent water parameters. If you do so they will be always happy and you will see growth. :smokin:

Not to hijack, but what do you normally feed zoas?

You can feed quality invert liquid food, small pellets, smashed flakes, etc.
There is no need to feed them, once they get most of their nutrients from the the water and from their zooxanthellae for their energy. It's an additional boost for the growth and reproduction, to me. I feed my zoas once an a while.
You need to really pay attention to the water quality. It's really bad to feed them too much and have the water going too high in nutrients.
Also, normally some of the food offered to the fish get caught by the polyps, depending of how much you feed your fish.

Please search around the forum and you'll see that water quality is a must to keep a trouble free reef tank. Even for the zoas!:hmm5:

Thanks Grandis! I feed pretty lightly and would use it to boost growth myself. Zoas do seem to be a little more finicky than some other corals.
