Zoa frags dying or still hope?

I bought a couple of single polyp zoa frags a week ago, a blue eyed blondie and Blue Aspen. It's only been 1 week

They both never opened up. Here are pics of it the day I got it and today. Doesn't look good. How long could zoas be closed up for and still have hope? Or should I call it a loss?

Blondie - This one looks like its a goner. (the frag in front)

Aspen - This one slightly opens, but mostly closed (the frag in front, has baby head on side)

Bump!!! I have a couple like that as well. From what I have read and witnessed as long as they are not decaying, falling off, or melting away just try to keep good flow and hope for the best. I have a group of Bam Bam's that has been closed for some time now and still not happy, but the poylps look ok ( for being closed) Any info from teh experts would be great !!

Yeah, I guess that's all I could do is hope for the best. The Aspen still looks plump and opens a little bit, so I am hopeful for that one. The Blondie just closed up tight and can't even see part of the polyp, so am praying it pulls through. I hate buying one polyp frags just because of this, but hard to find with multiple polyps or just can't afford to buy more than one polyp. Good luck with yours. I will post back if any progress.

Wondering how long someone's frag went closed and made a recovery? Days, Weeks, Months closed?

I'm not an expert, but I will try to help!! :o

There is not much you can do about it there.
It could be the algae or cyano that is on the plug.
You can remove the frag from the system and put hydrogen peroxide ONLY on the plug, where the algae is.
If you want you can use a brush to remove the algae off while using the peroxide.
That will help you to kill the algae.
Rinse off the peroxide with tank water and put the frag back in the system.

It doesn't look like it has any bacterial infection, melting. It looks like it is irritated with the algae around.

The one with no algae is probably a shock and will need some time to get back.

Sorry, that is all I can tell by the pictures...
Do that first carefully and leave it alone for a week, if not any film/marks on it.

Keep the params stable.

That happens also when there is a significant difference in the chemistry or light between the system the zoa came from to the one it is now.
But it is a good idea to try remove the algae from that plug.

Perhaps the experts will tell you more... I hope so...
Gook luck!!

Grandis.

Awesome, thanks A. Grandis. Will try to clean off the algae. My parameters are pretty stable and all my other zoas are doing great, it was just these two I recently bought. I am running LEDS and the tank I got it from was T5s I think all the way on top. I put the frags in my sandbed to try to acclimate. Iwas debating whether I should shade them or put them higher, and decided to let them be and just hope for the best.

whenever i see fungal infection i dip the entire frag in 20% peroxide and 80% tank water and blow off the fungus with a turkey baster. if caught early enough i have had a high percentage of recovering the infected frags.

I have had a few different zoas closed for over a month and make a recovery. Bit I have always wondered why they do that, besides algae. The peroxide dip has worked well to clean them.
