Zoa problem

Here is a pic of what my zoa colonies normally look like, and what they have looked like for the last few weeks. Any ideas on what is going on? My water parameters are all normal.

They looked stretched out which usually means they are not getting enough light.

How long have you had them, what are your lights, have you added anything new?

I have had them for 7-8 months, my lights are a T5 w/ 4 54w bulbs and a PC w/ 2 55w bulbs. All the bulbs are about 8 months old. In the last few months I added a fire shrimp and a flame angel which I know have the potential to nip at zoas. I have not seen that happen, and would think that would cause them to close up, rather than to stretch like that.

I agree that they appear to not be getting enough light. At 8 months, its definitely time to be changing out those PC lights, but the t5s should still be good. Try changing the PCs and see what happens.

They are not stretching for light, that is just how they look. Have had armor of gods which is simlar to what you have in various places in the tank. They are always stretched out no matter what. I have seen had them right under T5's and they did the same thing. Not sure what goes on with them but sometimes mine would just close up and not come out. I would just move them to another tank and they would perk back up. I have noticed that they like to be in high flow, with a bulkier stock on them it seems that they were ment to take stronger flow. Try moving them into more flow also try to freed them, palys seem to take brine or mysis shrimp without a problem.
