Zoanthid Lighting

Later today I plan on fragging the bunches of zoas that came on the LR I got with my tank. I like the zoas but they are just not on the right spots, and are spreading like wild fire in my tank now that the hair algae is starting to go away. I will be using a chizzle to get the zoas off the rocks(they happen to be on a 30lb rock!) and dividing them to put on the frag cork.

Now my question is, will the zoas be able to live under PC lighting for a couple of weeks? I am going to starting tearing down the 125 so that I can replace sand(didn't do it when I purchased the tank off of craigslist), and get the bottom frame replaced. PC lights are the strongest I have aside from the 4 VHOs over the 125. They will be in a 46 gallon tank under 2x 96 watt PCs for the duration of time it takes for the tank to be ready for adding them again or my lfs having room to take them for trade in.

They will be fine. I have power compacts over my frag tank and the zoos do just fine in there. They don't grow as fast as they do in the DT but they live.

They should do well in there, but if they're fresh cut you may have some issues since they can stress pretty easily those first 3-4 days. Do you have enough flow in the holding tank? That's going to make a huge difference as well... Be careful fragging them too small off that rock, frags cut from the middle of a colony are a bit finickier than the ones cut from the edges since there's so much more damage to them.

I still have a week before they will be going into a holding tank. I tried one rock and don't think I did it very well. My lfs said that they will show me how and take the frags after they dip them. I will be fragging all of the zoas because they are on a large rock that would be nice to mess around with when I set the tank up again. After 5 weeks of doing nothing for a bunch of bleached zoas(got my tank as a whole set up from Craigs List) but putting them in some light they are coloring up nicely!

I would frag them, wait them to get well, then I would change the tank.
I also would keep the same light they are now, to help them while the change happens.
Grandis.

your zoas will live just fine under PC lighting. I kept them for years under PC bulbs - never any problem doing so.

I have a 10 gallon tank that I use mostly for frags. Lots of zoas in it and I am using 2 65w pc bulbs. Not only do I have great color, but they are growing like crazy. They are coralife 50/50 bulbs
