zoanthids out of control

My zoas are taking over the tank faster than I can prune them. The electric green are the most prolific.

What have others found to be the most effective way to prune or limit growth. They are starting to spread beyond the rocks into the sand bed, on the clams...........

I really like what I have but need to reduce the amount of tank they control.

got any pictures? not there yet myself. you could start over. take some of the larger rocks, give, trade or sale them away. take off small frags and start them over on a new rock.

Yeah they're very easy to frag when they grow onto the sand bad. I have green ones too that grow like crazy. I frag them every couple of months to keep them from covering the sand.

I am thinking of upgrading to a larger tank. When I do I will post some of the colonies for trade or sale. I still see photos of large reef tanks with small colonies of isolated zoas in the middle of other corals.

How is this achieved? add the zoas last?

What halts their expansion - just manual pruning? Mine are determined to make the tank their own. Is this possibly because my tank has a rich nutrient source that is fueling their growth?

I will add photos later if I have the time.

I was also wondering if anyone has a good source for true purple people eaters? I have been on Blane Perun's site but can't see any he is selling. I would not buy one polyp on ebay from some hack.

It is very tough to tell by your other posts as to what size tank these are in? Are they in that Rubbermaid you wanted to buy? If so just tear them and put them in another spot. What is the size of the tank in which they are housed?

notice the greens taking over the rock and surrounding the clam. They are also trying to muscle out the pink day trippers.

what I don't understand is why are the zoanthids doing so well but look at the red superman mushrooms that just will not open up no matter where I place them?

I have purple mushrooms and red mushrooms that open and are prolific. Why in a tank where all the water parameters are check and capable of prolific growth in zoa's, leather, xenia growing like weeds, clams thriving....

why do my red superman mushrooms not respond as well???????

this is a 75 gallon tank.

Note - I dose Kalk, my calcium at upper levels, the lighting is coralife PC
384 watts. Nitrates undetectable. Notice the xenia spreading as well. I was told by a local pet store that they had seen a similar situation where xenia and zoas prolific but certain mushroom species would not grow.

I would really like to understand why the zoas and other corals so prolific but the red spotted superman mushrooms are just not happy.

they look good! I would leave them but if you do not want them then just reach in there and rip them off and trade them in
