Zoas and a cycling tank. HELP!

Feriation

New member
I set up my tank and began cycling last week. An amazing fellow reefer gave me a piece of their liverock to begin my tank's cycle. On that rock was a tiny lunar eclipse zoa. I'm hoping they make it but I'm not holding my breath. They aren't looking too good.

I was originally keeping my lights on in the day and off at night. I now have diatom blooms. I began keeping my lights off all the time, and my zoas started looking a lot worse. Could the complete darkness have had an effect or is the just the sustained 0.5ppm ammonia in the tank while it's cycling that is killing them?

Any way I can save em? Lights on? Lights off? Should I do some water changes while my tank is still cycling?

Tank was started Oct 28th.

Tank is a JBJ Nano Cube 28 gallon with CF HO lights
77 degrees, and 1.025 salinity.
0.5ppm ammonia, 0ppm nitrites/nitrates, 8.0ph

You're a time traveler! Haha...unfortunately, you'll have to either wait it out or add bacteria to deal with the ammonia faster. Looking at the picture, I see an sps polyp'd out, but not sure where the paly is.

Oh... It might be an sps? I am brand new to saltwater and corals especially.... I was told it was a zoa so that was what i had thought it was...

Edit: should i keep the lights on for the coal, or should i keep them off for the diatoms?
