Zoa's and Iwasaki 15K 175watt MH

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone here was running the 175watt Iwasaki 15K bulb and keeping Zoa's?
If so how has the growth and coloration done for you.

If you are running this setup with mainly Zoa's can you post up some pics of your tank?

I ran them over a 120 with magnetic ballasts and it was too yellow for my tastes... I changed to Ushio 14K's...

Yellow with the 15K Iwasaki? I think you had a bad bulb or ballast.

That's what everyone says... Nothing under them had color, though. I even tried it on the cheapo ebay dual electronic ballast and it was more yellow than I liked. They were on a 120 that sits 2' away from my 125 SPS tank with (3)-250W DE Phoenix 14K's and VHO's, so that might have skewed the appearance a little (and that gives you an idea for how much blue I like-the 125 has my favorite color combination in terms of lighting).

Are you sure it wasn't an Iwasaki 6500K? The lowest color is on the ARO ballast and it's still 13,700K.

The 14K Hamilton does look good.. BUT the par is only 48.. With the Iwasaki 15K the par is 86...Almost twice the par of the hamilton.. These are par reading using a Icecap ballast posted on Sanjays website...
This is the main reason I wanna try the iwasaki.

Here are my Iwasaki 15k and they are not yellow. The tank shot is with them on, but with 2 layers of screen for acclimation.

Well, it sounds like everyone else thinks it is very blue, so I guess my eyes obviously can't be used to judge it. A 15K Iwasaki is what I ordered and got, so I'm not sure why it looked so yellow on two different ballasts, unless, as I mentioned above, the comparison to the 14K Phoenix's (250W DE's) anmd VHO's on the tank beside the 15K Iwasaki's made it look yellow. The Ushio 14K is much bluer on both ballasts than the Iwasaki, though...

Many of the bulbs labeled 12K and up are really just labeled that number for marketing. Most run much higher and closer to 20K. If you saw yellow with the Iwasaki I would suggest running carbon or ozone.

I talked at length with Hellolights about this. The Iwasaki 15K actually register at 11K. To me, that is yellow also.

They were 100% wrong about that. Sanjay has tested on multiple ballasts including hellolights own ARO electronic ballast.
