Zoas closed for a while and dying

I have some green zoas that were doing great and growing like crazy. I had a bad outbreak with cyano and treated it a number of ways including Chemiclean. That treatment was around 8/12, then another at 9/25. The zoas, just these, not my others closed and have remained so for this entire time. Some partially open but most of the colony is closed. Since 9/25, I've completely changed out the entire tank water.

My tank params are all good, except my Mg is 1600+ and ph was 7.8. It's now back up to 8.2 - for almost a month. I checked for zoa pox and see nothing. I see no critters on them either. The only think I see are some tiny white filament looking things - 1-2 mm. My colony has been cut nearly in half. I tried Coral Rx but nothing. I'm not sure what to do next.

Any pics?

have you tried taking the piece out and dipping it?

from your quick description it could be hydroids... but a pic would help out! Someone on here will see something in a pic to help you out.

Yes. I dipped the frag in Coral Rx. It did not seem to care. Here's the best pic I can get.

Just happens, some just catch a cold per say and whittery away. Just the nature of them in captivity. I seem to have some that thrive in my tanks and some that fight to live.

You are not alone.

Possibly the chemicals you've used, yes.

Try to do a partial water change with a good salt, like Red Sea, and leave the system to rest for a while. It will take some time!
You can try carbon, like Chemi-Pure. I use Rox0.8 from BulkReef Supply for my regular basis, changing once a month. Good for the coralline algae too. The Chemi-Pure will help you with the chemicals!!!
If you still have chemicals bombarding the zoas in the system they could die soon!

Cianos can be avoided with a good water flow, low dissolved organics.
Good skimmer will help too!
It's ok to have some periodical little spots with cianos...
Please avoid chemical treatments in the future.

Try to keep your alkalinity/pH in check!
Temperature around 79/80 F is good for most zoas.
"Salinity" on the 1.023/1.025.

Keep the params constant.

Good luck!

Grandis.
