Zoas in the sand bed?

So I browse through the site looking at everyones tanks and have noticed the trend of putting your Zoa's on the sand bed and or glass bottom. I am curious as to if they expand pass their rock/plug and grow on the sand, Anyone got pics of this and/or of the underside of the growth. I know they will attach and grow to the glass, just curious how it works with a sand bed.

Yeah they will continue to grow and expand onto the sandbed. I put them there as I don't want to shock new corals with too much light and that's as far away from the light as it gets.

I put them low on my sand bed when I first get them, and if they grow there I leave them. If they don't seem happy, I move them up a bit until they like where they are. Plus, as they spread on the sand they are easy to frag.

I have some on my sanded. I put the fast growing palys and zoas on the sandbed so it would be easier to control especially "Pink n Golds" they grow fast!
