zoas keep dying?

Anybody have any ideas or suggestions abought why my green colonial polyps keep closing up and dying. There are orange polyps on the same rock that are multiplying that are in less direct light? My water parameters are all good (except nitrates 5 ppm). I am using pc lighting ,should I move them to a less light area?. I have 4, 65 watt pc bulbs I wouldn't think this would be too much for them? Everything else is doing good and growing including anemones and mushrooms. Any suggestions?

Sorry to hear the bad news Kware.

Can you describe in detail what they look like as they are declining?

Can you list what your parameters are?

Don't worry about the nitrates. Having small amounts of trates actual help them grow.

What size is the tank?

How old is your system?

What's your Salinity?

You said the rock is a mixed rock and the orange zoas are surviving yet the green zoas are dying, correct?

Are the green polyps smaller in diameter than the orange zoas?

Are the green polyps more of a shorter mat form than the maybe the orange polyps which are taller?

Do you have any other fish or inverts in the tank? If so, can you name them?

Are you sure they're dying and not being consumed at night by a tankmate?

In the middle of the night, long after your tank has been dark, ( at least 3 or 4 hours, turn on your actinic and inspect the rock and see what on it.

The green polyps will be open and look real healthy, then one will just close and never open back up.There is one that is kinda half open. I've lost two now with one on the way. My water paramaters are all zero except nitrates wich are around 5 to 10 ppm. The tank is a 90 gallon tank. I had a 55 FOWLR for around seven years. Last summer I switched to the 90. I keep the salinity at 1.025-1.026 ppm. The orange zoas are smaller and when I got them they were very small, now they are about double their size and a new polyp has opened. I have 2 clowns a yellow tang, a three striped damsel, and a bicolored angel fish. I've spent alot of time watching the bicolored angel fish and he never nips at them (that I have seen). The only night creatures that I have seen are bristle worms. Today I gave them a freshwater dip. I will let you know tomorrow how they are doing.
Thanks Mucho Reef
p.s. your tank is amazing!

Today all the green polyps look real sickly. Most of them are closed and the ones that are open don't look good. The small orange polyps opened right up and look real good. Anybody?
