zoo's and protien skimmer

i recieved some zoo's from geoxman on Saturday, when they were supposed to show up on Friday. don't get me wrong, this is not geo's fault, USPS failed me again. well, the zoo's were not happy at all when i got them. i acclimate my corals in tank, so i don't have to worry about temp differences, the tape on the bag let loose and dumped the zoo's into the water with no acclimation. they have not opened yet and the other corals in my tank are not looking too happy, either. my protien skimmer has also been going nuts and foaming over since yesterday. is this because of the new zoo's? some of the polyps look white, and nothing seems even close to opening.

i ordered some PHEs one time and they didnt open for almost 2 weeks or more. needless to say i was worried about them. however they did pull through and have been doing fine ever since. if they stay close for a couple of days you may need to clean off the algea growth that may be growing on them. i just lightly rubbed them with my finger and it came right off. good luck

Give it some time. You could always test the water to see if there is decay thus requiring some water changes and perhaps removal of questionable items.

I think the worse thing to do is keep handling the zoos. Make sure your water quality is pristine and good things will happen.

You might give it a day and check the frag for decay. If there's any I would remove the bad section ASAP. If not, just wait and give them time.

the polyps are starting to look better. i'm doing a water change tonight, so that should help. do you think the new zoo's are the reason my skimmer is going nuts?

I've typically had some decay when I got new zoas. Granted mine were attached to some live rock and there would be sponge die-off and other things "curing" in the live rock... I would just send a flow from a power head over them once or twice a day to blow away any decay and keep up with the water changes.

No-to the skimmer going nuts.
Did you add anything to the water? Even if the whole colony, it was good size-not 25 polyps, rotted and died it still would not make the skimmer go nuts.
I agree with Dastank-keep an eye out for dead polyps and if you see them scrape them off. You could also place a few hermits on the piece and if there are any dead polyps they will clean them up. There was no sponge on that piece so you dont have to worry about that.
Shoot me a PM with your # and I will give you a buzz if you have any ?? or worries.
Thanks

did you put the water from the shipping bag in it???

if so that explains it...you know how many toxins are released in that shipping bag???
