zoo's not opening often...

So I bought my first zoo frag and I have noticed that most of the time 70 percent of the polyps are closed. I have it placed near the middle to top of my tank. I run three reefbrite xho leds. Could it be too much light that high in the tank? Is it normal for them not to open all the time? Any knowledge on zoos in general would be appreciated as well. Thanks!!!!

It might be your lighting. Generally new additions are placed at the bottom of the tank and then gradually raised if need be. You might want to set them on the substrate for awhile and see what happens. Another possibility could be pests. Here's a link that might help you out.

+1 to putting them at the bottom of the tank, also, are you measuring your salinity with a refractometer calibrated with 35 PPT calibration fluid?
