Zoos not opening

Did my weekly water change yesterday, now my zoos won,t open. I did not add Iodine or trace elements to the new water like I've done in the past but other than that nothings different. MY water perimeters are O phosphates, 0 nitrates and 0.25 on the ammonia. Should I be worried? Any reason they would normally stay closed for ????

i really cant give advice cause im new also but just from my personal experience with zoas and pallys there really hardy and will live thru alot just give them time and they will prob open. or look for something that can be bothering them or nipping at them.

I've had them for some time now, this is just not normal behavior,I was thinking maybe a cleaning proses they go through. I don't see anything that would be causing irritation.

hmm ive had mine closed for a day randomly but never longer then 2 days if they dont open tom there is prob something wrong i think they just get tempers sometimes. Did you use ro di water?? if tap water did u use conditioner?

but again ive only had zoas for like a year im sure other people will pop in and give more incite on the matter, what kind of zoas or pallys do you have?

Always use tap, yes I conditioned it and I always let it mix for at least 24 hours. Despite the many warnings against tap water I've never had any problems. Not sure what type?? PIcs in my album.

just looked at all your pics nice tank :), i cant really think of anything that could be wrong that i know of hopefully someone will give there 2 cents that had years of experience. they also will hopefully open today :)

Thx, tanks only three months old, it's been a learning proses but I think its coming along well. Hopefully I will be putting in a BTA by mid oct.

buy a tds meter to see exactly were you are with your tap water

also a chlorine test kit from a pool supply store

and a few extra t5 h.o and powerhead's may help imo.

Tanks been stable for over a month and a 1/2, but those up grades are coming. Now for the part that gets me noticed (whats a tds meter?) I thank I found the problem to simple to over look. my salinity was 1.026 almost 27 which is about 2 points higher than I normally keep it, (1.024).

1.027 will be the high end of where you want to keep your salinity

a tds meter measures the total dissolved solids in your tap water.

they normally go for around $20 for a meter and if your water is above 150 then imo you would have really bad tap water

I've ran a successful tank with 150 particles per million.

would suggest 0 thou and never above 150.

rodi water is best but as a alternative, aquarium pharmaceuticals sells a tap water filter which needs replacing probably every month.

Oregon runs off the bull run, which as far as tap water goes it's really good quality, and as long as I pay attention I'll know about possible changes in the water supply. But I will get a tds meter a.s.a.p. always better to know than be surprised.

Actually, many places in the US are quite a bit higher. Mine is 350.

I would suggest 0 and never above 0 ;) Chlorine, phosphates, nitrates/nitrites, ammonia, etc are all commonly found in water that doesn't get processed by an RO/DI unit.

I've run tests on my tap, all were at 0 so I,ll assume there all lower than the test can read, not likely a problem. I did a small WC to lower the salinity it went from 1.027 -1.025, and they seem to be more open today. I still like the idea of having a tds meter. If I am going to use my tap water 1 more check can't hurt. THX, the RO/DI unit is on the list as a must so I can go w/ a bigger tank latter on.
