I haven’t kept Tridacna species in some time but, yes, Tridacna under 2” should be fed a phyto diet. Also, placement in the tank is important. derasas love being on the sand. Maximas will burrow into the rock. Etc.

Based on the picture, you have a young T. Maxima. Beautiful clams.

I keep Crocea and Maxima from about 1 inch with no feeding and that do well without problem.
These Crocea and Maxima are 1 inch in these pictures.

This Crocea was 1.5 inch about 3+ years ago. Now about 3.5 inches. No feeding I tried to feed a few time with frozen phyto I had from raising clowns but did not continue since I did not see any observable differences with feeding

كان هذا Crocea 1.5 بوصة منذ حوالي 3 سنوات. الآن حوالي 3.5 بوصة. لم أحاول إطعام بعض الوقت بالنباتات المجمدة التي حصلت عليها من تربية المهرجين ولكني لم أستمر لأنني لم أر أي اختلافات ملحوظة مع التغذية View attachment 32387511View attachment 32387512
