1 1/2" Ball valve/ true union ?

i just bought this for my dart. it's a combo unit.
i don't get it, it comes completly apart so you cannot have
any water pressure at all when you take off the union.
i was under the impression that you would close the valve
& unscrew the union & service the pump. is there more than 1
style avallible?

the trick is that you only disconnect one side. You keep the side with the valce connected to keep the flow blocked.

whats up with this thing?

ahhhh!!! ripped off at the drive thru again.

that looks like a single union ball valve. I use the union ball valves found here. http://www.savko.com/partlist.asp?pgid=1

They turn very easy and are simple to make small adjustments. See how the true union ball valve has a joint on both sides of the handle. Single union bv's are fine just put the valve on the side you want to be able to close off.

something is missing , you cannot hook it up to a
pump & remove it later for cleaning because the middle piece has no retainer to hold back water pressure. i know what it was supposed to do. :)

I always made my own ball valve/union combo..cheaper that way. I would have a valve on both sides of the pump...suction and discharge. have the union fitting facing the pump, that way when you break the seal youl only have minimal drainage.

I bought the same thing in 2" a few weeks ago for my dart. I thought I was getting a deal also until I went to take my pump off.

I went and bought a 2" plug to put in the bulkhead when I have to take the pump off next time.

I have done this too. The only disadvantage is that they take up more space than a integrated union ballvalve. Plus the nicer ones are alot easier to turn and make smaller adjustments
