1/10 HP chiller

I have found a good price for a pacific coast import 1/10hp chiller

Claiming 10 degrees for 110 tank and 30 degrees for 75 tank.

I have a 65 that I am having a very hard time getting the temp to stay at const. I live on the east coast so its always warm here.

Does these temps seem valid?

Any input would be awesome.

1/10th HP is around human power, something sounds "fishy" to me. Now if they had the chiller in an area that is cool to begin with maybe, but even the chillers I have looked at around 1/5th and 1/4th HP were for a max 150 gallon tank.

1270 btu isn't much, I would say that a single 150 watt MH lite puts that much out. A small roomsize A/C puts out around 7000 btu.

Though it could be that you have too much flow through the chiller. Max for the one you are looking at is 240GPH and it also requires the room temp to be below 95 degrees to work properly.

I started looking at jbj chillers.....their 1/10 hp is rated for 130 gallons. 1270 btus.

I've been looking for awhile myself, but I don't have any practical experience to relate. However, 1/10 HP would be oversized for a 65g. Be sure to match the flow rate with your return pump from your sump.

I've also heard that chillers are notorious for having some real crap on the market, so I'd go with something sold by more mainstream companies or get a recommendation.

So far, I've been getting along with fans and turning on my AC when needed.

well, oversized is a little good. Doesn't push the chiller to the limits and help for longer life and better temperature management from what I have heard.

Fans haven't really worked for me, I have tried a couple different variations. I already know I need a chiller. Mainly because of the temperature here in charleston. Hot and Humid.

I have found a good deal on the 1/10 JBJ. I have one of their nano-cubes and I am extremely happy with it.

I think i'll go with that.
