1" Bulkhead with barb hose fitting ?

I have got new 58 gallon OCEANIC tank with an overflow and the "mega-flow" kit. There was one 1" and two 3/4" bulkheads included in the kit. One of the 3/4" bulkheads had 1" initernal opening the other had 3/4" on both its sides. These bulkheads have very nice feature: instead of standard "slip" or "threaded" end, they have barb-hose fitting on the outside of the tank. This allows very short fitting to a flexible vinyl hose and I like it very much.

I would like to replace one of my 3/4" with a 1" bulkhead, exactly like the other one. Need to have two identical 1" drains... I was looking around but cannot find same type bulkheads - where can I buy them with barbhose end? Are they custom made for OCEANIC/All-Glass ?
I would hate to buy another overflow kit priced at $49 just to get another 1" bulkhead... please help!

You will probably have to just buy another bulkhead and the appropriate size of hose barb and attach them.....however, the hole size will have to be changed which could cause some problems.

Hose barbs (threaded and slip) can be found at Home Depot or Lowes, but I prefer Lowes for plumbing (they seem to have more selection IMO).

I have ordered bulkheads online, as I can't find them at HD or Lowes, and the LFS charges double.

Just a note of caution, If you have an Oceanic glass tank the bottom is tempered. You wont be able to make the second hole larger.

Thanks for the warning, Drew. I am aware of this fact - there was a quite large, white sticker on the bottom glass with red letters alerting me about this and making me curious in how do they make these two holes in tempered glass... I have left the sticker there, just in case my memory will fail me in the future :D

Going back to the subject - remarkably, both holes in the glass bottom are of equal diameter of 1 3/4" and all bulkheads (1" ID and 3/4" ID) fit this large holes perfectly. Outer diameters of the bulkheads are all the same, nuts are the same - just inner diameter matches 3/4" and 1" pipes. This is the reason I got tempted in replacing 3/4" ID bulkhead with a 1" ID one and re-do my drain pipes :D

There is a third bulkhead in the kit: 3/4" ID 3/4" OD - obviously does not fit my tank but they made their "overflow kit" universal to fit many different tanks.
Just in case anybody here with All-Glass/Oceanic overflow does not use his 1" bulkhead - I have this spare one for trade ;)

Wow,

My AGA mega-Flow has the two different size holes. One slightly smaller than 1.5 and the other slightly smaller than 1.75.

Just to answer you curiousity, I believe that the holes are drilled in the glass BEFORE it is tempered.
Wow! That makes perfect sense... :)
Thanks.

Sorry to hear that ;)
Just kidding - I guess I am very lucky with my OCEANIC having two holes equally big.

Anyway - my question is still open - if you ever see a bulkhead with a barbhose end please let me know. Adding a barbhose fitting to a normal slip or threaded bulkhead is an option, but I would prefer to have both bulkheads identical and not built from two pieces :D I always tend to have the system easy to assembly/disassembly in case of some mishap or just regular maintenance/cleaning/redesign/fine-tuning ;)

pszemol: I just bought a used AGA with the Mega-Flow kit. I replaced the bulkheads with standard bulkheads, so I think I will have an extra 1" barb thing as well as the 3/4", if you want. Something to consider if you haven't already, the drain from the tank to the sump, you may want to consider some plumbing arrangements that is removable, just in case. I have installed a union there, again, just in case.

I will pm you. Thanks.

The LFS I go to carries those bulkheads. Bought two for my sump, then ended up using true unions (w/pvc plumbing, no tubing) and had no need for them. So I sold them to a friend for his project. I will call the owner and ask where he got them.

That would be very nice of you. Thanks.

Call All Glass I havent decided if I am hard plumbing or using flex. But my kit came with the hose barb type. i called all glass and they sent me the traditional type. i got them in 3 days. By the way if i decide to hard plumb I will have the bulkheads you are looking for but like any reef tank patiance is a virtue and I wont make my decision until my Lifereef filter shows up and i see how it all fits under my stand. that will be in April sometime if you have the time to wait. If not All Glass cust support is really helpful I worked with Rochelle.
