Ok guys its been 79 days!! tomorrow is the big day, i had been managing ich for the last 10 years and got fed up!!

i removed ALL my fish put them in a 200g treated them with paraguard for 2 weeks, then copper for 1 month. copper is still at .3

the problem is that i see 2 of my fish rub themselves on the pvc!!! no ich ,no nothing on there skin!!!

i do water changes every 2 weeks or so (50% or so) and re medicated! but its a lot of fish in a 200g system water quality does not look that good , no amonia but the water is not crystal clear.

sooooo!! what to do??? could the rubbing be from poor water quality???

HELP!!!!

Ich does not have to be visible to be present. Poor water quality could be a possibility. However, if the fish are still flashing after a known ich infestation, I would be highly suspicious that the parasite has not been eliminated. Chemical treatments can be tricky with ich, as they are effective against the highly unpredictable swimming stage.

I wouldn't put them back in the DT until you are sure the parasite is gone. Best method for ich elimination (IMO) is Tank Transfer Method, although that may be a challenge with so many fish.

Do them in batches or even one by one.

Copper is in general not a good choice as you have only a very narrow therapeutic range. Below that it won't kill the parasites and above it will kill the fish.
Also copper diminishes the fish's immune responses which makes them susceptible for a whole range of other infections or cause outbreaks of things the fish were already infected with (like Lymphocystis).

I agree ^^^^. Also, I notice you said the copper has been at 0.3ppm which it should be at 0.5ppm to be effective.

+1

0.35 is the minimum therapeutic concentration. I agree with ThRoewer though...copper is not a good medication for the reasons he listed.

hi guys, thanks for the replys!
copper was at .5 for 4 weeks.

i started 1 week paraguard then 4 weeks copper at .5, then 1 week formalin and then copper again at .5 , I did not readjust copper after that so it dropped to .3.

i did a large water change this morning with water from the display, the have stopped rubbin.... so i dont know what to do![emoji35][emoji379]

In my opinion it's lurking in most systems just waiting for a victim I know one person who had no new editions for over 4 years not even so much as a coral frag or anything from anywhere and WS popped up.

A healthy fish will generally shake it off and don't show any outward signs.

I've had it and I run.a decent UV and Ozone but it popped up so opted like you to go fallow some fish did flash in QT as the copper may irritate them but I put them all back and have had no issues it truly is a nightmare and the person who invents a 100% reef safe treatment to kill it will be a millionaire overnight.

The only way to reliably kill it is a 100% working immunization with a vaccine. This is likely possible and worked on already by a lot of researchers.

I want to set up a qt while my fish undergo TTM, and my DT is fallow. Can I use live rock and sand from the DT if I heat the water up to X degrees for Y amount of time to kill the Ick? Will my beneficial bacteria and other fauna survive this?

one hour at 40°C should kill all cysts, though I would go a bit higher (50°C) and at least twice as long.
The bacteria you want to keep will likely also not survive this, though you never know.
