I was thinking about making my own skimmer out of acrylic, but I decided against is. Instead I decided to try making one out of 2 one liter water bottles some loc line and a spare pump I had laying around.
I cut one of the bottles in half and then drilled a hole in the bottom for the collection cup.
On the other bottle I drilled two holes. 1 towards the bottom of the bottle and then 1 more a quarter turn from the first hole about half midway the bottle.
I drilled a hole in the pump right before the impeller so it would suck in air, and used some soft airline so it would be above the water line.
I warn you that it is very loosely thrown together as I am going to use the bulkhead and locline in my nano but it works. It probably is running on too powerful a pump MJ900 equivalent since it overflows.
Let me know what you guys think.
