Hello All,
This is my first post. I have been reading many of the questions and answers in this forum for a few days now and find y'all to be helpful and friendly. So I opted to join. I am new to saltwater. I've had had freshwater planted tanks for a few years but the plants lost their appeal. It became yard work in a glass box,and frankly I have enough yard work to do. I was just about ready to get out of the hobby when I fell in love with a couple of perculas (Mark & Donna). So now I have a 29 gallon sw tank with 22 lbs of cured live rock. Oh ps I cycled my tank with Dr Tims and it worked great. My sal is 1020 n a half. Temp is 77 f I use ro/DI water ph 8.2 o ammonia o nitrite 5.00 nitrate as of this morning . I have an Edge led fixture over the tank. I am just starting to notice diatoms or that's what I think it is. Will these go away as they do in freshwater? I'm guessing this is part on the new tank syndrome. Also I have a hob filter for now and a pump for water movement. Any input wound be appreciated ,thanks.

Diatoms are pretty common in a new tank. It should go away fairly soon on its own. Snails can also aid in removing some of it.

Just let the diatoms run their course. Next will come cyanobactetia, hair algae, and maybe some dinoflagellates, bubble algae, and turf algae. These things are largely unavoidable. Just be sure to be diligent with water changes and keep an appropriate feeding schedule and things will clear up. A tuxedo urchin can be helpful if the outbreak gets too bad.
