10" Jewel eel eat an adult clown?

I posted this on my local forum but you guys may have better insight....

I think Mr. Bubbles has eaten a beloved clown. I've read everything I could find on eels for months and it's my understanding he wouldn't go after anything larger than he could swallow...so I'm not sure how he could have since he's not that big and the clown wasn't that small (we've had him for 3+ years....my daughter is not happy atm). One of the eel tunnels comes right out near where the clowns host so that many have something to do with it...our clowns are very aggressive when anything goes near that area. Until last night, the eel had no interest in the tunnels but he was in it this morning and hasn't left them since. I've moved the rock (covered in hairy mushrooms) so the other clown doesn't feel threatened...if that is what happened.

I'm feeding the eel daily and he was in a tank with other fish at the LFS for awhile without incident. Anyway, any advise? If another fish goes missing my daughters will demand the eel goes I'm sure...and he's soooooo cool!

Missing orange one was alittle smaller than the female black one:

Yes I think Mr. Bubbles had lunch or supper. I'd be concerned about any other smaller fish in the tank and a more sad/mad little girl.

If you want a eel in your tank I would suggest catching Mr. Bubbles and replacing him with a Mr. or Mrs. Golden (Golden Dwarf).

They are little bit more pricey but in my opinion way more hardy and fish safe.

Yea, I think you're right RDtrack. I wanted a Golden tail or Dwarf Golden but due to the price and availability ended up with the Jeweled...

I have a pair of golden's and love them. I bought one a little larger lived in the tank till I added a much smaller one.

The larger golden has never touched anything accept my harlequin shrimp or pompoms. Leaves cleaners alone.

I was a tad concerned when I add my pair of candies to the tank, until I saw one of the candies bop my eel on the face.

I also use to target feed my eels but I don't any more just have them scavenge and have never had a problem.
