Ouch. Make sure to get a second opinion, a friend of mine recently asked me to check his truck out as his A/C was leaking and they told him $1200 to repair it.

I looked at it and it was a $5 schrader valve.

I think with the economy down and even before that garages were closing left and right, they're getting desperate (aka, shady) about getting the money coming in.

ive taken it to 3 places but they all seem very shady as to sell me the entire system as they all say thats what i need

yet my AC blows cold air for about 10 minutes then stops

sounds like a charge or a pressure switch issue. Where are you located?

One of my friends just broght me his car because they said $1200 for a new system. It was a $5 schrader valve leaking. New part, vacuum, refrigerant, and about an hour of my time and he was good to go on it.
