I added 2lbs of live rock and some agra-alive sand to my tank today. My salinity is between 1.020 and 1.021. Ammonia is .1 on the color comparison sheet. Here are some pics. I will be testing nitrates and trites tomorrow.

i have no clue what this is. It came out a few minutes of being in the tank

I dont know what this is either (circled)

Your salinity needs to come up, its too low. And we need a better picture of the thing in the second picture. It looks like it could be aptasia, a pest. And I dont see anything circled in the third picture. :)

The first picture is an aptasia. They are a nuissance, and I would kill it. The second picture I cant tell what it is because of the pic

How would i kill it? Just pull it out with tweezers? I raised salinity to 1.023 killed aptasia

Tweezers could work if you only have one or two. But I think they can regrow themselves pretty well if anything is left.. There are products you can buy (more money...), peppermint shrimp love to eat them too.

Since you don't have much in your tank yet I would just try and cut it off or something like that.

Any ideas for what livestock you'll have in there?

Here is my cc list:
2 0r 3 mexican turbos
3 Nassarius Snails
1 skunk cleaner shrimp
1 peppermint shrimp
and one astraea snail.
is that good?

That clean up crew seems to be a little scarce... You may need a little more than that once ur diatom bloom comes in full affect. However u do only have 1 peice of live rock, but if u plan on getting more I would upgrade ur roster.

My trites as of yesterday are .09.
i went to the lfs and got 5 more lbs of lr. Im not great at aquascaping. Pics.

some weird pink stuff that has little tentacles

pic of the larger rock.

I do have one question. I am running my filter but not my powerhead. Should i be running the PH also or neither the filter and ph. Two lbs of the LR seems to be cured but the 5 new pounds added today aren't cure i dont think. I need a good cc.

Things are looking good so far!!!! Congrats on the 10 g!!!

Your nitrate and nitrite levels are showing that your still cycling, this will probably continue for the next few days, so you're right on schedule!

You can run the powerhead if you want to, this may (or may not) help get any silt out of the sand. Sometimes there is a fine silt that forms after the "dust settles" from adding rock. The powerhead sometimes helps get that silt into the water (called in suspension) so the filter can get it out.

Things are looking pretty good in your tank! Keep up the good work!!!!!!

NO corals while its cycling!! Corals are very sensitive and wouldn't make it through the cycle. Patience is a must with this hobby. If you do anything too fast, nothing good with come of it. Just want until the cycle is over, and start with something hardy, like mushrooms.

Not much going on with the tank since im on vacation in florida. Haven't been able to check parameters so we'll see what they are on monday. And its normal for the salt to evaporate right because there is lots of salt on my stock light glass guard?

Im back and here are my levels:
Nitrite=.09
Trates=.23
Ammonia=.08
Do these kinda low levels mean my cycle is almost done?

My levels as of today
Nitrites=0
Trates= 0-1.14
ammonia=0
Im going to get some more "cured lR" soon and could i put a Cleanup crew in along with the new rock?

UPDATE
I completely redid my aquascaping and got my CC and a fish. This all happened awhile ago except i recently got the fish. I forgot what fish he was so an Id would be nice. At night, he burrows under the sand. Pics

My cc is 5 nerite snails, 1 cleaner shrimp, 5 blue legged hermits, 2 naussirus snails, bristle worm (I think) and the fish picks up after himself.
