10gal regular tank QUESTIONS!

I want to make a standard 10gal tank into a reef tank.

Can you guys list your setups? These are the lights I was thinking about getting .

I am prolly going to be keeping Softies and LPS right now because I am a noob when it comes to reef. Down the line it would be nice if I could keep SPS though ( which is why I am picking semi-strong light ) .

I am on a very tight budget since this is just a side project ( I have a 55gal FOWLR and a 10g hex F/W already )

What do you guys think?

I plan on using a AC HOB 30gal for filter / flow and about 10lbs LR and 15lbs of aragonite sand.

Can some of you list your setups pics etc?

Here is my 10 gallon...

Its pretty simple. Aquaclear 50 HOB filter with chaeto. a 50w heater, a little powerhead. Lighting is a 150 XM 20k.

BTW Coralife makes a 20" 96w fixture that works great for 10 gal reef tanks...

I was told by alot of people that the viper light is no good. bad reviews.

In the filter all i have is a couple of pieces of LR rubble, and some chaetomorpha. no carbon no nada.

Ya the Coralife light is one lamp. 96W quad bulb.

you should just build a canopy and retro an HQI. that way you can get whatever ballast and lamp you want...

I use that 2X40w satellite fixture over my 10 gallon reef and am very pleased (although the stock fan is a bit noisy, I find it necessary to keep the fixture cool). I have done halides over a 7 gallon but had a lot of heat/topoff issues. With this set up, I actually barely have any evaporation and the temp is a constant 78-79. I use an AC110 powerfilter, modded to be a fuge, and will be putting LR and cheato in it next week. Other than that, the only equipment is a 25 watt heater (in the HOB filter). I do run carbon and purigen, but that is because I needed top quality H2O from day one since I was forced by certain family members to add stock right away (live rock was fully cured so I never had a die off). Hope that helps!

rockindacheeks, I notice you have a clam on your 10G. Are you using a calcium reactor. Just wondering, I want to get me a clam.

BTW I like your tank! it looks nice and you have a varieties of corals for being a 10g.
