10K Reeflux DE

I have a 14K Phoenix bulb now that is a little dull and blue for my taste. I'm thinking about the 10K Reeflux DE and wondering what people think of this bulb. I don't have actinic supplements and I'm looking for a crisp white with slight blueish tint.

Will this work or do you have any other suggestions?

Thanks!

i heard the 250 hqi pheonix was one of the best bulbs/setups you can have, but since i only have a 175 mh SE setup i can be no help, sorry.

10k would definatly be more yellow/white than the pheonix, iv'e seen the pheonix in person by itself and iv'e seen it with VHO atinic definatly a good color bulb.

you would need some type of actinic for any bulb lower than 14k in spectrum

There are many 10K bulbs out there, some very yellow and some being crisp white.
This bulb has the reputation for a crisp white that is why I'm looking for opinions on this particular bulb from people who use it or have used it.

I replaced my PH14k with the Reeflux 12k and the Reeflux are much more yellow than I thought they would be. These are running on SLS HQI ballasts. Electronics should be more blue.

I have a friend who uses the 12k DE on his prop tank with electronic ballasts and they are much more blue than with the HQI.

I have no experience with the 10K bulb though.

Maybe this helped?

BTW, even though your a Cubs fan, you are welcome to travel south and stop by to check out the Reeflux 12Ks running. Just shoot me a PM for a meeting.

I'll be running it on a HQI ballast also. Yellow? Wow, that's surprising. I spoke to Jeremy at premium aquatics and he was describing the bulb as crisp white with a shade of blue. And that was the description of the 10K bulb! I wanted to make sure before I bought it.
I was also looking at the Ushio 10K.

I do not use the DE version but I do currently use the 10 K 175 watt SE Reeflux on my tank. I like the color myself and it appears white to my eyes. I have use 10 K Reeflux, 14 K Hamilton, and 10 K Hamiltons in the past. The 10 K Reeflux SE is the whitist I have used to date. Much whiter than the Hamilton 10 K. I swithed to the 10 K Reeflux from the Hamilton 14 K because they were dull and too blue for me as well. You would think that going to a 10 K bulb from a dim 14 K bulb would make it look yellow just out of shock to the eyes. The Reeflux bulb did not appear yellow at all upon the switch so that has to say something about the spectrum. I do not know if the DE's are the same but I just wanted to share my experience. I hope it helped .

Thanks Froggy. Your description matches what I've heard, I think I may take a chance. I'll see what others say tonight and order tomorrow.

Here is a comparison pic just for a little reference. Keep in mind that pictures are never really how they appear to the eye but the same camera and same camera settings were used in all of the pictures.

10 K reeflux , 2 110 watt VHO's ( one actinic and one actinic white ) and 2 X 55 watt actinic PC's

14 K hamilton with 2 X 110 watt VHO's ( actinic and aqusun) and 2 55 watt actinic PC's

And finally 10 K Hamiltons with 2 X 55 watt actinic PC's. Did not have the VHO's at this time

I just bought a Reeflux 10K and 12K 250 DE. Both are run on magnetic HQI. The 10k is yellow and I do not like the color. The 12K is very similar in color to the Phoenix I have, but the par is about half the Phoenix. I have tried alot of bulbs and the only 10K crisp white I found was an original AB. I have tried the newer ones and they were yellow.

The Hamilton 14K so far is the only other bulb I think I will use. I have not tried the Geisman though.

If you find a 10K that is crisp white, I want it!!!

Just my .02

hey Tony have you looked at the blv's 10k or even the 14k. Accorting to Greg the 14k is almost like a true 10k. I know that the 10k is a true 10k based upon sanjay tests.

The Reeflux DE 10K's are very yellow on HQI ballasts. All of the Reeflux bulbs seem to have much better color with electronic ballasts.

I am running 2 12k DE reeflux's on a SLS ballast They are a crisp white with a tint of blue. Also running 3 10k SE in lumenarcs on coralvue Electronics they are pretty white with a touch of yellow I am happy with them. If you want to see them I am in algonquin

I just got off the phone with Jeremy at preumium. He said the HQI ballasts will give a yellowish tint to the bulbs and an electronic ballast will give a more whitish blue look. Basically exactly what Don Berry posted.

Has Sanjay's lighting tests done any tests on the Reeflux bulbs yet? I personally like the 12000k for a crisp white look, but then again I'm running SE bulbs on an electronic ballast so your actual coloration may vary.
