my friend gave me his k2 viper MH but the thing is its 150 watts. i have a 12 gallon tank and idk if too much lighting is bad for an anemone. i heard my my other corals(xenia, frogspawn, hammer) and the anemone will burn and die. is what i heard true and should i give it back? Help!

how long is your photoperiod?
break it up into 2 sections
so have the viper on for 4-5 hours then give them a 2-4 hour break with a low wattage LED light. then back on for 3-5 hours
im not sure if your timer does that if it doesnt just give it a shorter photoperiod they will be fine.

hope that made sense.

i had 760w over my 55gal.....well oddysea...so more like 620w or so...i was fine but that small of a tank probably burn up so fast cause massive evap to

Whatever you decide, make sure to acclimate slowly. Light acclimation always seems to be the last thing folks think of...

Happy Reefing!

Watts don't mean a thing, and does not directly coralate with par or lumens. The 150 watt light should be fine, just raise the light higher up.

i actually use it now on a 20 gal but my xenias are turning brown so im thinking about shading that half of the tank because all the other corals are doing fine
