12 Gallon cube for seahorses??

My LFS has a 12 gallon cube sitting on their counter with 4 seahorses sitting in there. I know that it depends on the type of seahorse, but is that tank too small for that many seahorses? I know they aren't dwarfs.

I currently have a 75 gallon reef tank, but I am looking to downgrade to a smaller reef/SH tank. I have moved 3 times since I started my reef tank, and it is just too much for me to have to move again!

Also, What types of seahorses require a warmer temperature of water? I have been reading up on keeping seahorses, but I am just now getting a little bit serious about possibly starting a tank for them. Any comments are greatly appreciated.

12g. Nanocube or Aquapod.. isnt really suitable for seahorses.. of course it can be done.. i have seen it done.. but it isnt the best set-up.. the all in one tanks generally run way to hot... some warm water species though for say a 20H is
H. Kuda
H. Erectus
H. Reidi

also 4 SH's are a ton for that size tank.. especiall if it was a nanocube b.c. they actually hold about 9g. not 12g.

Reidi, kuda, erectus, babrouri, are all warm water species if you consider low to mid 70's warm water.

The mechanical and biological filtration in a 12g tank cannot supprot the bioload for 4 adult seahorses. It is oe thing if they're little juvies, but IME reidi can get to be over 10", same with erectus. That would be 40" of fish in a 12g tank. Not the best scenario.

If you want to get seahorses why not try a 29g with some T5 or PC lights. That will be able to keep a good temp, might need a fan, and make a happy home for the seahorses while giving you some extra room for those seahorse safe, non stinging corals. JMO

Thanks for the replies. The seahorses that are in there now are juviniles. I knew that tank had to be too small.

I am really considering setting up a seahorse tank. So, a 29 gallon is a good size to go with then? Is there anyone that would be willing to send me a picture of their setup and list the equipment used? I plan to buy the base equipment (Tank, stand, filtration, etc.) over the next month or so. Any and all comments would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Again,

David

I kept 4 adult erectus in a 20xh for over a year and half. Nice tall tank with the footprint of a 10gallon. Makes it really easy to add a 10g sump/refuge under it also.
