12 nano 150 hqi (pics)

Here's a link to an article worth reading about this:

http://www.advancedaquarist.com/2006/9/aafeature2

Basically it shows that the amount of light corals can handle is directly related to the amount of circulation in the tank. If there is too much light, but not enough flow, then the coral can undergo photoinhibition. Because there is so much light the coral is madly producing oxygen through photosynthesis. To a point this is really good b/c it means the metabolic rate of the coral is high, which in turn should result in a high growth rate. A great deal of light however, can cause the coral to keep producing oxygen up to levels where it becomes toxic to the organism. Increased flow will remove the oxygen.

So... high light is good, but high flow must accompany it.

Read through it yourself though, I am a total noob to this hobby and not experienced enough to evaluate your specific situation.

I know people keep nano tanks under 150W HQI successfully, but you should take into consideration what kind of circulation they have to go with it.

Hopefully you can get some input from the more experienced reefers. Good luck!
