120 Reef Office Build (75 upgrade)

The 120 is still up & running for now.

am having troubles with some corals while others thrive. Seems I can do no wrong with purple and blue acros.

... my pinks and greens seem to be another story, very odd as other than alk being a bit high (12-14 dkh on a Salifert kit) my params are pretty solid. My PO4 swings from ND to ,04 on my Hanna meter.

This valida has come back from a vicious MH burning after weekend long return pump failure.

My Miami orchid, now moved away from my suddenly stingy RBTA is thriving.

Are you going to frag that monster Valida?

Very cool tank. I love the overcrowded look, but I certainly understand why you want a bigger one to move into. :D

Congrats on the split by the way!

Hey a split!!! :D

Yes, I frag it all the time, it's the only way I can keep it under control. :D I have two 1-1/2" frags and a puddling monster piece on the frag rack now.

Dave Harms

Thanks! I am hoping to get that same crowded look soon enough once in the 375! :D I am adding many stags to help get that big colony look going.

Maybe you can bring some to the next meeting? I would love some of that blue tort. Was that started from an ORA frag?
:D

Thanks Frankie!

So, I have this convict tang in QT and he's sooo timid, I never see him. I put in nori on a clip and some rubber banded to a 1/2 piece of PVC as well. I do the PVC too because he's a rock picker and I've found that sometimes this helps get fish that feed this way to start picking at the nori. So that worked and , although I rarely see it, he devoures the nori I put out from both the clip and the pipe. That's good. But, I never see him eat the mysids, squid or other frozen I feed. Some of it, seems to disapear, but Iam fishing it out all the time, and pellets and flakes are ignored altogether.

So, yesterday, I created the tang burito!

I took a strip of nori (ON Seaweed selects is what I use) and spread some mysids on it, rolled it like sushi and squirted it with Zoe for good measure. Gave it 5 -10 minutes for the mysids to completely thaw and the Zoe to soak in and placed it in the tank.

Of course, he did not touch it while I was there, but this morning, it's all gone. Now, I have the piece of mind of knowing he's geting good nutrition and a vitamin enriched, meaty meal and not just filing up on veggies!

April's meeting was supposed to be here, but that's a long story ...

Anyway, sure, I'll bring some. Or let you know when I am in Hudson county, we are all over the place every day. I have this one fragolony of it that is sweet!

Oh on the torts, one is ORA (generaly bluer and denser growth pattern) one is Shaun Bennett (generally more purple tones witha sprawling growth), not sure if they're one in the same originally. They do appear to have the different coloring & growth patterns, but that could just be lighting and flow variations, even thought they are just 2' appart in the display. I rarely frag these. They are generally slow growers although both are really putting on some impressive growth at the moment!

Right now, I am sooo happy!

I just found my female orchid dottyback in one of the overflows! HA!

I have to scroll back through and see how long she's been MIA, but it's about six months or more. And, I looked in the overflows everyday for weeks hoping to see her!

Well I'll get her when I take the tank down, just like I got my Midas Blenny out of the OF in my 75! It'll be a few weeks, minimum, before that happens, but she looks great!

It's official. We are moving to a new office June first.

Still trying to figure out the reef plans....

I'll keep you posted as I figure it out.

I was sitting here today with lease for the new space before me marking up the legalese and fretting about some hard decisions I'll have to make regarding my tank(s).

I am, at this point, very skeptical that I can get the tank into my office in one piece.

I've been looking back at my August 2006 start up of the 120, and I don't want to repeat that hasty move again. I spent over a year correcting the issues and redoing the set up. And, I am very, very pleased with my 120 today, in fact, except for the never completed canopy, it looks awesome right now :D , but to go through that again in a large system is not appealing to me in the least. Not to mention, I do not want to put my critters through the stress either.

I am leaning toward, setting up temporary fish and coral holding tanks, completing my planned repairs to the 375 tank and stand, and , moving it over to the new building. Then, after the dust of the move settles, I can take my time and assess ways to move it into my office. I do not want to keep this beautiful tank in an entrance way and I've ruled that out.

If I just can't get it in, I can always sell the 375 after it is all buffed up, and get a 4 or 6' x 36" deep tank that will easily fit in the office. As cool as that would be, that would be a bummer, as I really want to run this 8' tank! I pulled one of the cracked braces off today ... not nearly as hard as I though it would be thanks to some tips from fellow reefers!

I lost my convict tang. It's odd, it was doing great, literally eating out of my hand when I would place food in the tank. Came out as usual one day, all fat, no, really fat, and happy and then just vanished, finally I found him behind the rocks a week or so later.

Sorry about the fish Bax. It happens.
I think your plan of taking your time and doing this right is the way to go. Keep the updates coming buddy. :)

Ha!

Just taking some pics of frags for someone and caught my clowns spawning! I'll post the vids when I get home!
