120g AGA megaflow question

I'm in the process of setting up a sps 120 tank and just realized that AGA no longer makes the 120 with twin corner overflows. It's still possible to have them special order it but because i am moving in a few weeks i dont have the time to wait the 2 months that AGA is saying it will take for it to be delivered.

Anyways i've read a few posts where people with the dual megaflow 120s are having problems with deadspots in the corners of the tank and between the overflows.

I'm looking for some feedback from those of you that have the dual megaflow style 120s....do you have problems with deadspots?

For flow i will be using 2 tunze 6100s, a tunze 6000 and should have about 700gph coming out of the return that i was gonna hook a penductor up to.

Any reccomendations?

You should be ok with two 6100s and a 6000 along with eductors on the sump return. Just try to arrange the flow so that there's enough water movement near the bottom back center between the overflows. That's the tough spot.

I have a dual megaflow 120, and I have two 6100s on a multicontroller along with two eductors driven by an Iwaki 55. When I had only one 6100 on a single controller, detritus always settled in the back of the tank between the overflows. Now that I have two 6100s the back center stays clean.

ok good, how do have your tunzes arranged?

Twon: yeah i was thinking that as well. I've got a couple 820's laying around as well as some tunze style maxijets. I'm gonna be running a sandbed so i wouldnt be able to point them straight down but maybe could angle them downward somehow or hide them in the back rockwork.

How youââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢d need to arrange them would be highly dependant on how the rockwork is arranged. Magnet holders are an absolute must to give you maximum flexibility on the positioning.

I have to tell you that my tank is bare-bottom. The flow is so strong that if I had sand, it would be blown into dunes with large areas of the bottom swept bare. A sand bed and a dual megaflow 120 is not a good combination IMHO.

yeah i'm a little worried about sandstorms as well, do you think that i will be able to mount the tunzes lower in the tank and angle them slightly upward and still achieve good flow? Probably a dumb question because i'm sure its something that will just have to be done with trial and error. I've considered going BB but i wont have time to cook my rocks and i really dont like the look of BB. Hopefully i dont regret my decision

When I had sand beds in my tanks, they either stayed in place and got dirty or blew around all over producing alternating dunes and bare spots.

I was never able to find a balance that worked.

Good news, i was able to get a LFS to order me a AGA dual corner overflow tank, it's gonna take a week or so longer then i would have liked but i think it will be well worth the wait.

well they dont really make them on the 120 anymore for regular sale, but they'll make anything you want, you just have to fill out a custom tank form.

Is it extra to do that or same "stock" price ?? I know that Oceanic charges a mint for custom work...

If I recell right, AGA = Oceanic...

Yep same company

it's extra, about $75 but i think it will be well worth it.
They dont seem to be as noticeable as the megaflows, they wont disrupt the water flow as much and they'll give me more room for rockwork
