120g Oceanic Tech Tank

Well, today I've decided to paint the stand instead of staining it. This was a hard decision, especially after working on the right mixture for the better part of a day, to match my entertainment center. But since the top of the tank will be visible and the geissman fixture is black, I've decided to paint it black so that it will all match.

So tomorrow, I will be applying Kilz, and then painting it. I will post pictures as soon as I get done.

As far as the power center goes, I really haven't decided on what I'm going to do. I'm leaning towards placing all of my equipment outside in the garage, this will keep my living room quiet and give me a lot more room to work on things. My only concern is going to be the heat in the summer. I do have a chiller though, so maybe I will be able to get by.

Anyone else live in a hot climate and have their sump in the garage? If so, what do you do to battle the heat?

Thanks for the compliment. I just got finished with the first coat of Kilz, tomorrow mornig I'll put another, and then paint this baby!

Updated pics and my first hurdle!

Updated pics and my first hurdle!

Well, I got the stand finished and placed the tank on it for a test fit. Wow is that thing heavy!!! Everything fit, so I began to place the sump in the stand along with the skimmer, when I realized I may have a problem.

I'm looking for advice on placement of both. I have them setup the way I would like them to be, however I don't know what I would do with the skimmers exhaust. I had wanted to put my pumps outside the sump as well, but I just don't have the room.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your help in advance!

Excuse the saw dust :)

The sump has a container for top off water on the left side, then the skimmer chamber, and then the pump return. I'm using two Eheim pumps, one will power the skimmer, and the other the returns. I'm not concerned with the amount of flow going back to the tank by the returns, I'm relying on my flow coming from my Tunze's.

Painting it wasn't fun!!! I let a friend borrow my airless sprayer about 6 months ago, he returned it, but apparently forgot to clean it out, so I found out when I went to use it. I deciding to paint it by hand, and it turned out really well. I was worried, but the finish is great, of course it took a lot longer than if I had sprayed it!

Lesson here, don't let your friends borrow your tools! :)

No I didn't. My LFS has a guy that builds them so I just got one of his. I think I may need to get a different one that will allow me to do something with the skimmer...

I just finished all the plumbing on my tech 120 last night. Today when i get home from work i am going to wet test all my plumbing and check for leaks. Cstires you and i are running neck and neck

You may want to reconsider the ehiem pump to power the MRC1. If you are still looking at placing some of the equipment in your garage, you could place an external, pressure rated pump in the garage. Beckett skimmers do much better with a pressure rated pump.

cstires, i am looking for an external skimmer for my 125. what kind is that and is it any good? I got suckered into buying a nautilus ex24 from kent marine by my lfs. they slashed the price to 150$ and i had never read anything about it so i decided to give it a shot. The thing is ridiculously loud and i have yet to see it pull anything from the water. How much is your skimmer and what is it rated up to?

What pump do you recommend for the MRC-1? I guess I could always locate the skimmer and the pump in the garage to save space under the stand...

Mostly noise. My tank is in my kitchen and so the noise from the pump on the tile floor was a little loud. I had a 2nd Gen-X pump running my closed loop as well.

I really like the beckett skimmers, but the needlewheels are a little less noisy and more energy effecient.

wet test went great!!! not one leak. So after 30 gallons of old water from my 70 gall and 86 gallons of fresh ro and salt its filled!!! I will try to get pics of it tommorow
