120g Oceanic Tech Tank

I kept all the rock, with the exception of one piece free from touching any glass or the overflow box. I wanted to make sure there was room for water movement around the entire structure to keep detrius from building up, as well as more room for the fish to swim!

I am curious about your choice of reflector. Any reason you choose those specifically?

Also, what skimmer is that you are running and are you happy with it?

Too bad about the micro bubbles, the layout down there seems really clean and organized. What size is the sump? Also what chiller did you go with?

I am just trying to finalize my equipment choices so I can get an order placed.

I went with this reflector purely because of it's ability to capture all the light the bulb emits. I previously had spider reflectors and they let a LOT of light escape. I have noticed a huge difference between the two reflectors. These were definitely worth the money. They are twice the cost of the spider reflectors, but I think well worth it.

I'm using the Aqua C EV180 on my tank. I can't really give a good review just yet, because it's still breaking in, however it was highly recommended to me by my LFS, and she uses these religously on her tanks!

The sump is pretty big, it's 36x20x16. I may end up removing it and designing one myself if my problems persist.

If I need to use the chiller, I will use my Current USA 1/3hp inline chiller. It did a great job on my 90, kept my temps perfect.
 
Your tech tank looks great - I'm thinking of getting one as well.

Could you tell me the size of the over flow, how wide is it and deep? Also, why type of bulkhead are you using for the over flow? Are they schedule 40 or 80?

I will get the measurements for you when I get home tonight. I'm using standard sch 40 1" bulkheads. I think it's about 3" deep, 24" tall, but can't remember how long. But I will post it later for ya!
 
I have a question? What is the overflow made out of? Acrylic? or the megaflow material?

Have you had trouble scraping of algae/coraline from the overflow given the material?
 
The dimensions are 4"w x 18"l x 24"h. It's not made out of acrylic, more like PVC/Plastic, like the megaflow material.

I finally finished the stand and canopy, and received all the parts I need to complete this baby! So my brother and I moved the beast into the house tonight, and then a quickly realized how small of a home I own right now!!!

Here are some shots of it in it's resting place. Tomorrow and Sunday I will be plumbing it and getting it ready to go!

For your sump MB pro... try a 100 mircon filter sock.. That should fix it up...

But the best would be to remodel your sump,

I know it a lot of work.. But if you dont you will always have in the back of your mind.,...

So better now then 5 months for now...

In any case the setup is Killer...

I purchased my sump at my LFS, however I won't be doing that ever again! I will attempt to make my own first!

A local guy builds them for my LFS, not sure his name, though since your in CA it probably doesn't matter anyway! :)
 
I used Ralph Lauren paint on the stand. It was caulked, primed with Kilz, sanded, primed with Kilz, sanded, painted, sanded, and then painted the final coat. It came out great! I think it was called black trouffle or something like that. It matched the rim of the tank perfectly.
 
cstires, Are you running your Dart wide open? I have just bought the same tank. my plan is to put 2 wavyseas in each corner. I am just trying to figure out how much flow I can put through the over flow.
 
Yep, the dart is running wide open! I thought it would be too much, but it's not. I'm planning on doing a mod to the overflow this weekend, I can't remember the name for it, but it's the one where you use a single drain that is submerged under the water by a few inches, and you have another emergency drain so to speak in case the primary ever clogs. This will eliminate what little micro bubbles I have at the moment.

Considering the rating on the pump I was expecting to get major flow in the tank, which I do, but it's not toppling anything over. It's actually been very nice not to have to look at power heads, etc...
