125 Build

Starting a 125 build got tank yesterday and stareted cleaning today. One thing I learned and want to caution everyone about. As I was cleaning the tank with the top rim off, I cut my wrist on on the edge while drying the glass with a towel. It took two stitches to close and missed the vein. Even scarier my 6 year old daughter was working on tank with me...Thank God it wasn't her.

Sorry to hear about your wrist :(

May I ask why you removed the top trim ?

Also that tank does not have a center brace, how thick is the glass ? You may want to fill it and check for bowing before you set it up.

The top trim silicon had let loose in several places so I had to remove it and the old silicon and clean it up to repair it. Just regular repairs I would say. Wrist is not bad today so working on sump planning. Got the new overflow box built yesterday. BRS parts are ordered hope they're in by this weekend. Then get the stand done this weekend. Started sump layout tonite hopefully running silicon in the tank and sump this weekend and running water thanksgiving weekend.... Overflow box has 17, 1/4" x 1" slots. That's 4 1/4 sqin of overflow. I'm hoping thats enough for the mag9.5. If not I'll have to deepen the slots.

nice! you'll love that overflow design, once you tune it in (very easy) its super silent! did you drill the holes your self?

After reading about the california style overflow I'm thinking I should remove the teeth and just have a smooth skim? Chime in all please...

I would be afraid to loose fish, critters over it. I like teeth that extend a few inches above water line.

OK keeping the teeth. Got a DJ 4 port switch off Amazon ordered yesterday, was at the door when I got home. Nice. Worked on the stand got alot acomplished. Should be finished with the bottom and canopy tomorrow. Can start sump baffles and tank work on Sunday. While painting stand. Yes Progress!!! The blue outline in the plan is the tank the rest is cabinetry.

I'd keep the teeth, Mine is smooth and I've had a few fish find them self in the external overflow, I do have strainers on the pipes so they don't get sucked into them, which I would recommend, if a snail gets stuck in the full syphon it could be a pain getting it out.

ON another note, hows the wrist?

Stiches come out on Tuesday thanks for asking. Got alot done on the stand today just need to finish canopy and doors tomorrow and paint. Will be siliconing baffles in sump tomorrow too. BRS stuff should be in on Monday looking good for water by thanksgiving and move into the house by 12-2.

Looking good, you'll love that overflow set up. usually pretty quiet, unless you have too much flow going through your sump like me. But i am stubborn and like the extra flow in my tank.
