125 gal in a F.R.O.G.????

I've run across a deal on a 125gal. tank. The problem is the only place I can put it is in my F.R.O.G. My house is less than 2 years old and the tank will be placed up against an exterior wall and perpindicular to the floor joists. If I remember correctly the floor joists are 2"x10" on 16" centers. One concern is that the will be directly over my garage door openings. It's a 2 door garage and the tank will be centered between the two doors (in the FROG of course). Once finished the floor will have to support the tank, stand and 40 gal. sump. According to All-Glass the tank and water will weigh 1480 lbs. (don't know if that's SW or FW). The 40 gal sump will weigh a max of 450 lbs between the tank and water. And the stand will probably be about 100 lbs. So total I'm looking at about 2100 lbs. as a max weight my floor will have to support (also added a 10 gal. top-off resevoir in that calculation).

So will it do it or will I have trouble? I figure the only thing I have going for me is that the 2100 lbs. will be dispersed over a 6' span. LMK what you think/experienced and TIA.

I would say it would be fine. It's a big footprint for the weight dispersion.

I think so too but I wanted to see if others agreed w/ me. I figure I'll test it first by putting everything together and fill it w/ FW and leave it for a few weeks and see how everything looks. But before I go into all that effort I want to make sure I will have a reasonable chance of success.

Get about 20 friends and have them all get in the spot the tank will go have them jump up and down for 20 min. or so if it holds that you should be ok, if not you may lose some friends. LOL.

I would be surprised if it wouldn't be fine, but if your house is fairly new, perhaps you could contact the contractor who built it and ask?

Front Room Over Garage? What is a FROG?

How long did you have to think about it before you figured it out. I thought that might be what he meant after reading his post 4 times....I should have just scrolled down and read yours.....

is FROG a common acronym I have never heard before???

I'm pretty sure it will be fine also, a friend of mines tank is set up like like also and its been for years with no problems.

If the garage has 2 separate doors with a vertical support between them I bet it will be fine. If it is one big garage door I would be concerned.

It's 2 doors w/ a verticle support between them. Each garage door has manufactered wood header above it. I think it will support it but I'm not an engineer nor do I have any experience in this. Prior to this the only houses I have lived in have been single story and the biggest tank I have had was 55gal.

live loading the floor like that is a little different then the dead load of a tank...unless he has one hell of a surge device on it...

i am sure the floor will hold the tank with no issues..

I'm putting in a 150 Gal on my main floor. My substrate is supported with 2x10s every 12". I am supporting my floor. Don't take the chance... Support it.

FROG is a pretty common term used here in GA. if your looking for houses at least. ive seen a larger aquarium in one of these rooms. it was bigger than my 75g

You'll be fine especially with the center vertical support.....But if you feel like you will not sleep at night...hire an engineer.
