125 stocking suggestions?

I'm always surprised when people tell someone that a tang is too big for their tank and suggest a foxface as an alternative. These fish grow fast and get just as big as a lot of tangs. They are prodigious poopers, too.

Biggest reason is they are not big swimmers like Tangs. Sure every now and then they will dash from one side to the other, but they spend most of the day stationary, either behind rockwork or just somewhere in the tank. Compared to Tangs which are always on the move.

I have a 7" Magnificent Foxface in my 125 and would have no problem recommended others with a 125 to add one, assuming suitable tank mates and not overstocked.

I might try a powder blue But I've had bad luck with one before. They are very pretty fish and probably one of the best looking tangs IMO. Only problem I have with em is being prone to ich. I think my kole can handle itself with one.

I'm still wondering bout a fox face! Seems like almost everyone never has a problem but with my luck if I get one it will only eat sps. I had never heard about anthias jumping and that sucks cause I didn't really wanna cover my tank but I am definitely getting those!

That's a fair point. They're good grazers, too.

Cover your tank, just about any fish can jump. Since you guys were just talking about a Foxface, mine splashes me and I'm sure could jump out if my tank wasn't covered. Also since you mentioned clowns, I've seen two jump out.

Wow who knew adding a few fish could be such a pain? I really hate the idea of covering my tank. Just seems like a pain in my rear! BRS has a cover kit for like 50$ so I guess in reality its cheap insurance and won't really cut down on par. Wonder how long that mesh will last being blasted with light constantly?

I have decided against the fox face completely because I just can't imagine taking a chance on something that might develop a taste for corals. I might end up with a wrasse but for now still not getting one.

For the bigger fish I have decided are powder blue or brown tang and possibly Atlantic blue or a white cheek. I feel that the powder and white cheek will be bad together but I think the kole Atlantic blue and either a powder blue/brown or the white cheek will be OK. What do y'all think?

I am definitely getting the anthias still. Those are my gonna have fish and it will happen. M thinking bout ordering 3-4 of those and a clam or corals from LA to get free shipping. Possibly going ahead and getting the least aggressive tang also.

I figure the aggression order would be powder blue then Atlantic blue then powder brown or white cheek. Of course the kole I already have seems to be one of the least aggressive.

Sound good?

Well just an update I went with 4 anthias a powder blue a one spot fox face and a Helfrichi fire fish. The anthias came in HUGE but extremely beautiful and lost one right off the bat. The pb is a butt but the existing kole tang and fox face keep him in line! The fox face is definitely very peaceful but don't take any crap from him!

Thanks for the help
