a bucket, battery powered bait aerator, and steady temperatures in the safe zone. Is the fish one that just has a truly exceptional personality or is it something that you might be able to order and have shipped in? If its at a store maybe they can overnight it to you?
It's not any special kind of fish, just a spotted hawkish but he's like iv never seen before with his markings. I had him put in a large double bagged and in a styrofoam cooler. I have one of those coralife temp gauges and taped the probe to the bag so I can Monitor the temp from the outside. I'm currently two hours into my trip. I'm coming from Florida. They had the most awesome shop there. The liverock was insane Wish they had shops like that in DC.
if you keep the bag closed , once you will reach your destination don't open the bag to acclimate the fish !! I would set up a QT tank matching the store salinity. temp acclimate the animal for 20-30 mins and dump him straight in after you open the bag. the key part here is not to let the fish in the shipping bag once it hits the air
If you open the bag and drip acclimate the fish you will most likely kill it as when the water gets back in contact with your oxygen you will have a big swing in PH and ammonia. your other option as mentioned above would be to get a bucket with a air stone and keep a good eye on the temp also.
good luck and have a safe trip back home :beachbum:
