150 build

id agree but it says that can only handle 800 watts max so i would need two of them and that gets costly thats why i thought the outlet would be the price of one controller and i could run both?

just got whole bunch of plumbing and goodies in so hopefully monday roles around and ill be able to get some of this done. Question though on the closed loop. For the returns i was just going to use 1.5" pipe and hide them in rock work and sand, but then got worried that things could decide to go crawling in there and and damage/ die in the pump. Should i use loc line, reduce the pvc? Any suggestions would be appreciated

How many returns? 4 or more I would say reduce to 1" at every outlet. Don't worry about critters, the flow won't allow them to climb in.

Back to the drawing board... So another question for you all. Having issues with my sump. My stand is 17" wide which means I can only fit anything small that a 55 in there. That said that's 48x13x21. However the top of my stand is 27" and I rather have more than 6" to work but I am having a terrible time finding a 40 long tank. So the question is do I build my own sump? If so glass or acryllic? I've never done wither but I like the 4 foot size for the skimmer return and fuge area. Maybe dimensions around 48x16x16? I guess my next problem is what size and do I need bracing around the top or will the baffles hold everything together? I was thinking 1/4" or 3/8" for either glass or acryllic. Any ideas would be great

Whats your stocking plan waddle? I know the feeling of a long build, you've been following my thread and its a long process. School's getting in the way as well, trying to get my master in physical therapy.... pita!

ya i feel ya... med school is keeping me a little busy especially with an exam monday... but stocking wise i have no idea. like i said the tank just fell into my lap. def going fowlr but i havent decided what. maybe aggressive maybe pretty fish... who knows haha. maybe ill even do reef and have a 90 and 150 haha

What are you doing on RC, should be studying man haha! Then again, I've got a test thursday.. haha. Sounds good though, I've only just begun and I already want a bigger reef tank! However, patience is a virtue. Keep me posted, I'll be following!

Finally did something. I drilled the return and closed loop holes. Only missing the overflow holes but ill do these after i get the box assembled. Also i didnt like the frame on the tank as it not braces and even though its 5/8" glass i didnt want to risk it so i am constructing my own frame which isnt as much fun as i thought and much more tedious. Here are two crappy pics but at least its something

If your still going FOWLR and plan on using cheap lights now and buying better ones later if you go reef, I would suggest looking into aquatraders. I have used their t5 setups for years on my freshwater and FOWLR setups.

still waiting on the acrylic waddle?
ya its not fun but it will be here friday :). i am kinda stuck doing anything else to the sump is set up. That will allow me to drill my last holes and get everything right. I may try to clean the tank today just so i dont have to do it later. maybe plumb the pumps so they are set up and ready

That's not bad, three more days! Hopefully I'll be doing a leak test by this weekend, and adding the liverock within a few weeks!

Very nice. Quick question, where did you get the true union ball valves in the picture and how much did they cost you? Are the handles easy to turn?

Thanks! lowes and $16. much cheaper than the schedule 80. The handles are like inbetween to be honest. I cheated and one night while watching tv sat there and moved them back and forth for a while and now they turn quite easily.
