The DIY sump is made out of three high density plastic containers.
Shot from the end of the stand
I drilled out two 2" holes on one side of the ends and both sides of the center compartment for water flow. The sides are thick enough to hold the water very well, but not so thick I can't put my equipment on it.

The drain and skimmer compartment. Have the skimmer sitting on a black crate and put some live rock under it for a "cryptic" type zone to grow sponges.
The center compartment holds quire a bit of LR, pod houses, cheato and on the right I have a plastic Tupperware container I put Fuji Mud in. It is underneath the cheato and the pod houses. When it's time to swap half of it out, all I have to do is pull up the container.
This is the return. Have my return pump as well as a utility pump that feeds the reactors and UV sterilizer.
Containers and plumbing ran about $80. My acrylic sump busted a seam. Right now I don't plan to put it back in. Just fix it and put it away in case something goes wrong with this one.
I've had it a little over two months. Got it from an aquaculture business here. Was looking for a green one, but liked this one because it will flash yellow when white light hits it.
